SOUND BY GARNET

Jazz musician-turned-inventor, Gar Gillies helped shape the sound of rock music.

Sound by Garnet chronicles Gar's life and times, from teen jazzman to electronics tinkerer to the entrepreneur behind the sound equipment heard 'round the world - Garnet Amplifiers.

Garnet Amplifier Ltd produced an estimated 50,000 pieces of gear between 1967 and 1987, many of which are still in use today. Guess Who guitarist Randy Bachman credits Gar with giving him a unique sound, helping propel American Woman to become the first Canadian song to ever hit #1 on the Billboard charts.

Sound by Garnet features interviews with musicians Jim Kale (The Guess Who), Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar, Grady), and Jason Nowicki (The Perpetrators, Romi Mayes); amplifier designer Pete Traynor (Traynor Amplifiers); Gar's former bandmates, family members and employees with Garnet Amplifier Ltd.
